Illuvium, a blockchain-based game, is gearing up to reach millions of PC and mobile gamers with its upcoming listing on the Epic Games Store, which hosts popular titles like Fortnite.
Developed by Illuvium Labs, Illuvium is set to be featured on Epic’s store from Nov. 28 after meeting the platform’s standards and requirements.
Co-founder Kieran Warwick explained that efforts to evolve the game and meet Epic’s criteria have secured its place on a leading gaming platform.
The game, developed using Unreal Engine 5 on the Immutable X network, will launch in three different game genres set within the Illuvium universe, catering to a wider audience of gamers.
Warwick emphasized the importance of attracting non-Web3 native gamers and spoke of the frustration surrounding the notion that NFT games require a wallet and money to play.
He acknowledged the barriers to mainstream adoption and addressed concerns surrounding the integration of Web3 infrastructure, regulatory issues, game design integrity, and the volatility of cryptocurrency markets and NFTs.
The upcoming listing of Illuvium on Epic Games Store is seen as a significant milestone for the blockchain gaming industry, potentially signaling a shift towards mainstream acceptance. This has prompted a more cautious approach from web3 gaming investors and venture capitalists in the industry.
