MicroStrategy Seeks to Deliver Bitcoin Wallet, Lightning Address to Corporate Account Holders

MicroStrategy, a business intelligence company, is increasing efforts to implement Lightning Network capabilities for Bitcoin layer 2 scaling solution this year. Executive chairman Michael Saylor updated that the company is developing a product to provide a Bitcoin wallet and Lightning address for every corporate account holder with the aim of enabling quick and easy development and deployment of Bitcoin rewards applications to employees, customers, prospects, and partners.

  • The Lightning Network is a layer-2 payment protocol that enables off-chain transactions, increasing payment throughput and reducing transaction fees.
  • LN adoption has been gathering pace in emerging markets such as South America and Africa, which can be credited to the efforts of Bitcoin payment company and wallet provider Strike.
  • MicroStrategy is also exploring software and solutions that utilize LN, including solutions that support enterprise marketing and a cybersecurity solution for corporate websites.
  • In April, Saylor integrated Bitcoin’s Lightning Network into his corporate email address, allowing anyone to send BTC to him using his company email address as an identifier.
  • MicroStrategy continues to focus on Bitcoin purchases, making it the largest corporate holder of the crypto-asset. Currently, the company owns 140,000 BTC, having purchased more portions of the asset throughout all the previous 11 quarters.
