Dormant BTC Whale Wakes Up, Sends $60 Million For the First Time in 9 Years

Dormant BTC Whale Wakes Up, Sends $60 Million For the First Time in 9 Years

After more than nine years of dormancy, a Bitcoin wallet has sent out a staggering 2,071.5 BTC, which is worth over $60 million at current rates.

Back in 2013, the wallet received a total of 6,071.5 BTC when Bitcoin was worth approximately $663. The mysterious whale transferred the assets on April 20, 2023, to an address starting with “bc1q” after remaining untouched for nine years and four months, as revealed by Lookonchain.

  • The complete stash of 6,071.5 BTC was worth just about $4 million from the get-go.
  • Now, these holdings have grown to about $176 million.
  • As to why the wallet’s owner has decided to move such a significant amount of BTC remains unknown, although there is speculation that crypto investors with substantial assets might be moving older funds to new addresses as a protective measure.
